Day 2 Round 3 Feature Match: Chris Hentz vs. Brady Olekviak

This match pits 2 3-0 players against each other, Brady Olekviak and Chris Hentz. Both are playing Junk Doppel Plant decks, and the winner would be undefeated heading into the Final Round of Swiss!


Game 1

Olekviak opens the match by setting 2 cards to his backrow then passing.

Hentz sets a monster and 2 cards to his backrow, then ends. Olekviak activates Dust Tornado in the End Phase, destroying the 1st set card which is revealed to be Trap Stun.

Olekviak Normal Summons Lonefire Blossom, which tributes itself off with priority for Lonefire Blossom in defense. That Lonefire Blossom tributes itself for Dandylion in defense, and then Olekviak activates Monster Reborn to Special Summons Lonefire Blossom in defense. Lonefire Blossom tributes Dandylion off for Spore, and Olekviak Special Summons 2 Fluff Tokens to the field. Hentz activates Book of Moon on Spore and Olekviak ends his turn.

Hentz flipped Plaguspreader Zombie next turn, then Normal Summoned Junk Synchron with no targets for the effect. Plaguespreader attacks over a Fluff Token, Junk Synchron attacks over the set Spore and Hentz ends his turn.

Olekviak activates Monster Reborn on Lyla, then Special Summons Doppelwarrior in defense. He turns Lyla to defense again to target the backrow and Hentz discards another Effect Veiler to protect it. Olekviak Normal Summons Debris Dragon to Special Summon Card Trooper next and Hentz activates Chain Disappearance to remove Debris Dragon from the game. Trooper mills 3 cards for its cost and then Olekviak ends.

Hentz Normal Summons Reborn Tengu, then mills Trap Stun to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb. He tunes Tengu with Bulb for T.G. Hyper Librarian, then Special Summons another Reborn Tengu to the field. He then activates Foolish Burial to send Spore to the graveyard, and Olekviak scoops when he removes Dandylion to Special Summon Spore!

Hentz Normal Summons Junk Synchron, which Special Summons Maxx "C" in defense. He tunes both monsters with Tengu for Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Olekviak discards Effect Veiler on Trishula and Hentz Special Summons another Tengu from his deck. Trishula attacks over Dandylion for 2400 and Tengu attacks over a Fluff Token, then hentz ends.

He then tunes Brionac with Formula Synchron for Stardust Dragon, and attacks over Tengu for 800 with Stardust. The Token runs over Librarian for 100, then Hentz sets a monster and ends. Stardust Dragon returns in the End Phase.

Day 2 Round 3 Feature Match: David Hagensten vs. Michael Steinman

This match features 2 players who are both 2-0 so far on Day 2. The winner of this match would have a very good chance of securing their spot in the Top 8, while the loser would be on the bubble entering the final round.


Game 1
Steinman begins by activating Pot of Duality, revealing Gravekeeper's Spy, Royal Tribute, and Dimensional Prison; he keeps Spy and shuffles the other 2 cards back. Steinman sets a monster and 2 cards to his backrow, then ends.

Hagensten activates Future Fusion to begin his turn, revealing Worm Zero to send Worm Linx, Worm Yagan, Worm Cartaros, and Worm Apocalypse to the graveyard. He then removes all 4 monsters to Special Summon Evil Dragon Anata in attack, and sets 2 cards to his backrow. Hagensten ends his turn and destroys Steinman's set Gravekeeper's Spy in the End Phase.

Steinman discards Gravekeeper's Commandant next turn to add Necrovalley to his hand, then plays Necrovalley and sets 1 card to his backrow. Next he activates Dark Hole; Hagensten chains Offerings to the Snake Deity by tributing Anata but Steinman chains Seven Tools of the Bandit to negate it. Day 2 Round 2 Feature Match: Stefanos Kalopodis vs. Vikas K

This match was not scheduled to be featured this round, but due to the YVD servers being down the Tournament Organizer decided to watch these 2 duelists battle it out on Dueling Network so they could get their match in. Since I have their decks, they cannot possibly Side Deck cheat. After both duelists removed their 15 Side Deck cards from play face-down the match began, but not before a slight crowd entered to watch. Both these players were already 0-1, would they be able to handle the added pressure of spectators?? Let's find out!


Game 1
K won the rock-paper-scissors squareoff, and set a monster and 2 cards to his backrow before ending.

Kalopodis ended his turn without playing a card.

K activated Pot of Duality next turn, revealing XX-Saber Darksoul, Super-Nimble Mega Hamster, and Solemn Warning; he kept the Solemn Warning and ended after setting 1 card to his backrow.

Kalopodis set 1 card to his backrow, then ended.

Kalopodis set a monster and ended.

K flipped Darksoul, then Normal Summoned XX-Saber Fulhelmknight and activated Mind Control to take control of Kalopodis's set Sangan. He tuned Sangan with Fulhelmknight and Darksoul for Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier! Trishula targetted Kalopodis's set Dust Tornado, which was chained to destroy K's set Solemn Warning; Kalopodis also lost One for One from his hand and Sangan from his graveyard to Trishula. Kalopodis added Debris Dragon to his hand with Sangan, and Trishula connected directly for 2700. K entered his End Phase and added XX-Saber Faultroll to his hand with the effect of Darksoul.

Kalopodis activated Foolish Burial to start off his turn, sending Dandylion to the graveyard to Special Summon 2 Fluff Tokens to the field. He then Normal Summoned Debris Dragon, targetting Dandylion. When Dandylion was Special Summoned to the field K activated Compulsory Evacuation Device to spin Dandylion back to Kalopodis's hand. Kalopodis set 1 backrow and ended.

K Normal Summoned XX-Saber Boggart Knight next turn, choosing not to activate the effect. He then flipped Gottoms' Emergency Call but Kalopodis activated Solemn Judgment, paying 2650 to negate it. Trishula ran over Debris Dragon for 1700, Boggart Knight attacked over a Fluff Token and K ended.

Kalopodis began the second game by setting a backrow.

K set a monster and 2 backrow, then ended. In his End Phase Kalopodis activated Dust Tornado to destroy the first set card, Compulsory Evacuation Device. He then used the second effect of Dust Tornado to set another card to his backrow.

Kalopodis drew and flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the set Solemn Warning, then he Special Summoned Cyber Dragon. He tributed Cyber Dragon for Caius the Shadow Monarch, which removed the set Darksoul. Caius attacked directly for 2400 and Kalopodis ended.

Kalopodis attacked the older set monster with Caius, destroying Emmersblade in battle; he flipped Solemn Warning to pay 2000 and negate the effect of Emmersblade. Kalopodis then set another card to his backrow and ended.

Kalopodis flipped Caius next turn and K activated Torrential to destroy it. Next Kalopodis activated Monster Reborn on Caius but K discarded D.D. Crow to remove it from play! Kalopodis Normal Summoned Lonefire Blossom, passing priority. When K had no response, Kalopodis attacked directly with Lonefire Blossom for 500, then entered his Main Phase 2 and tributed Lonefire Blossom to activate the effect. K discarded Maxx "C" in response and Kalopodis Special Summoned Dandylion to the field in defense, allowing K to draw a card. Kalopodis ended his turn.

He removed Lonefire to Special Summon a Level 4 Spore, and tuned that Spore with Armory Arm and 1 Token for Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier! K activated Solemn Judgment to attempt and negate the summon of Trishula but when Kalopodis chained his own Solemn Judgment K admitted defeat and scooped up his cards for Game 3!


Game 3

K began the final game by playing Pot of Duality to reveal Solemn Warning, XX-Saber Darksoul, and Torrential Tribute; he kept Darksoul. He then set a monster and 2 cards to his backrow before ending.

Kalopodis set 2 cards to his backrow and ended.

K passed.

Kalopodis set a third backrow and ended.

K passed again.

Kalopodis passed.

K passed for the third consective turn. Both players appear to be quite scared of committment at this point.

K passed AGAIN and Kalopodis activated Dust Tornado to destroy K's set Dark Hole.

Kalopodis encouraged his opponent to set Monster Reborn next time, then he set a backrow and ended.

He activated Giant Trunade to clear the backrows, then tributed Sangan for Cyber Dragon, searching out Debris Dragon with Sangan. Cyber ran over Boggart for 200 and Tengu hit directly for 1700; K dropped Gorz the Emissary of Darkness and a 1700 attack token after Tengu's attack. Kalopodis set 4 cards to his backrow and ended.

K drew to 9 cards in hand, and turned his Emissary of Darkness Token to attack. He slammed the token in Reborn Tengu and Kalopodis Special Summoned another from his deck. K set 3 cards to his backrow and ended.

K activated Mind Control to take control of the face-down Dandylion, then Normal Summoned XX-Saber Fulhelmknight. Kalopodis activated Solemn Warning on Fulhelmknight but K chained Seven Tools of the Bandit to save it. K flipped Dandylion face-up then activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Darksoul in defense. When Darksoul hit the field Kalopodis activated Chain Disappearance on it but K flipped Book of Moon to turn Darksoul face-down and save it. One of the duelists watching this offered his own quality insight into K's decision to play through 4 backrow:

He activated Dark Hole to clear the field of 2 Fluff Tokems, Debris Dragon, Gorz, Naturia Barkion, and the set Darksoul. Kalopodis set 3 cards to his backrow and ended, and K added Boggart Knight to his hand in the End Phase.

Day 2 Round 2 Feature Match: Chris Hentz vs. Chris Schwarz

This matchup features Chris Hentz and Chris Schwarz, who are both members of Team DuelistGroundz and the infamous Brady Bunch. They know each other well and are running similar builds, so this should be an interesting match!

Game 1
Hentz won the dice roll 5-2 and opened by Normal Summoning Lonefire Blossom, who was tributed to Special Summon Dandylion. He then activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Lonefire, which tributed itself to Special Summon the second Lonefire. That Lonefire tributed Dandylion to Special Summon Spore from the deck and Hentz got 2 Fluff Tokens. He then tuned Spore with 1 Fluff Token to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron, drawing 1 card. He then removed Lonefire Blossom to Special Summon a Level 4 Spore and Special Summoned Doppelwarrior from his hand. Doppelwarrior, Lonefire Blossom, and Spore were tuned for Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier which removed Doppelwarrior from Schwarz's hand; Hentz Special Summoned 2 Doppel Tokens in attack. Hentz set 2 cards to his backrow and ended.

Hentz drew and tuned Formula Synchron and both Doppel Tokens for for Armory Arm, then Normal Summoned Glow-Up Bulb and tuned it with Armory Arm for T.G. Hyper Librarian. Librarian attacked over the set Level Eater and Trishula connected for 2700. Hentz ended his turn and Schwarz flipped Royal Decree in the End Phase.

Schwarz declared an attack on Reborn Tengu and activated Book of Moon to turn it face-down and destroy it, and he drew a card for Maxx "C" when Hentz Special Summon another Reborn Tengu to the field. Schwarz moved to his Main Phase 2 and activated Dark Hole to destroy Reborn Tengu, Sangan and his own Junk Synchron; Hentz added Dandylion to his hand with Sangan and Special Summoned his final Reborn Tengu. Schwarz ended.

Hentz activated One for One, discarding Dandylion to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb and 2 Fluff Tokens. He tuned 1 Token with Glow-Up for Formula Synchron, drawing 1 card. He then milled Lonefire Blossom to Special Bulb back and activated Pot of Avarice to return Sangan, Dandylion, Lonefire Blossom, and 2 Reborn Tengu to draw 2 cards. Hentz tuned Bulb to Reborn Tengu to Synchro Summon T.G. Hyper Librarian, and Special Summoned another Reborn Tengu from his deck. He tuned that Tengu with Formula Synchron for Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, drawing 1 card and Special Summoning Reborn Tengu to the field. He then Normal Summoned Effect Veiler and tuned it with the remaining Fluff Token for Formula Synchron, drawing 2 cards. He tuned Formula Synchron with Reborn Tengu for Gaia Knight, The Force of Earth and Schwarz scooped!

Chris Schwarz gets savagely outdrawn and completely demolished by Chris Hentz, who is now 1 win away from almost certainly securing a spot in the Top 8 Playoff!

Day 2 Round 1 Feature Match: Nicholas Arena vs. Justin Aiello

Nicholas Arena made the Day 2 cut with a Fabled build packing Snipe Hunter that is slowly climbing in popularity while Justin Aiello is piloting Doppel Plants. This should be an interesting matchup!

Game 1
Aiello won the dice roll 5-1 on the second try after tying, and opened by Normal Summoning Reborn Tengu and setting 1 card to his backrow before ending.

Arena Summoned Reborn Tengu and crashed it into Aiello's Reborn Tengu, and both players Special Summoned another from their deck. Tengus rammed again and both players got their final copy from their decks and rammed them for the final time. Arena set 2 cards to his backrow and ended.

Aiello set a monster and ended his turn.

Arena drew and Normal Summoned Snipe Hunter, declaring priority on the set Monster. He discarded The Fabled Ganashia and rolled a 2 to destroy the set Doppelwarrior; Ganashia was Special Summoned to the field. Next he targetted Aiello's set backrow by discarding Snipe Hunter but rolled a 1 and missed. Fabled Krus was discarded for Snipe Hunter next and hit this time to destroy Aiello's set Mirror Force. Snipe and Ganashia hit directly for 3300 and Arena ended his turn.

Aiello began game the second game by setting 2 cards to his backrow alongside a monster.

Arena drew and activated Giant Trunade then discarded The Fabled Ganashia to Special Summon The Fabled Chawa. Ganashia was Special Summoned to the field and Arenas set 2 cards to his backrow. He then Normal Summoned Fabled Grimro and tuned it with Chawa to Synchro Summon Fabled Ragin, drawing 2 cards with the effect. Ragin attacked and destroyed the face-down Dandylion and Ganashia ran over 1 of the Fluff Tokens. Arena set 1 more card to his backrow and ended.

Aiello drew and Normal Summoned Lonefire but Arena chained Solemn Warning to negate the Summon. Aiello activated Monster Reborn to bring back Lonefire Blossom, and tributed it off for another Lonefire Blossom. That Lonefire was tributed to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb and Aiello tuned Bulb with the remaining Fluff Token for Formula Synchron, drawing a card. He then set 2 cards to his backrow and ended.

Snipe Hunter went to the graveyard and Ganashia then destroyed Formula Synchron in battle while Fabled Ragin hit directly for 2300. Arena ended his turn.

Aiello drew and Normal Summoned Debris Dragon, which brought back Dandylion. Arena chained Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, discarding Fabled Krus to spin Debris Dragon to the top of the deck. Next Aiello milled Debris Dragon to Special Summon Glow-Up Bulb in defense and tuned it with Dandylion to Special Summon Armory Arm and 2 Fluff Tokens to the field. He then activated Pot of Avarice to return Debris Dragon, D.D. Crow, Formula Synchron, Lonefire Blossom, and Glow-Up Bulb to their respective decks to draw 2 cards. Armory Arm suicuided into The Fabled Ganashia and Aiello ended his turn.

Day 2 Round 1 Feature Match: Raul Cervantes vs. Michael Steinman

Our second feature match of the day features Raul Cervantes versus Michael Steinman. Cervantes is piloting Machina Gadget while Steinman is using his beloved Gravekeeper deck. Cervantes is one of the few players left not representing DuelistGroundz in the tournament, but would he be able to keep winning against a member of Team DuelistGroundz?? Let's find out!

Game 1
Cervantes begins play by Summoning Machina Gearframe to add Machina Force to his hand. He then sets 2 cards to his backrow and ends.

Steinman discards Gravekeeper's Commandant to add Necrovalley to his hand, then activates Pot of Duality to reveal Dimensional Prison, Royal Oppression, and Fiendish Chain; he keeps Prison and shuffles the other 2 cards back. Steinman activates Necrovalley, then sets a monster and 2 backrow before ending.

Welcome to Day 2 of Grand Prix Championship Sydney! After 6 Rounds of Swiss, our remaining 37 competitors will be starting Day 2 all at 0-0. After 4 Rounds of Swiss there will be a Top 8 Playoff Cut. Our first round feature match of Day features 2 veteran players, Chris Schwarz and Victor Nolen! After a quick dice roll that Schwarz won 5-1, play began.

He plays his drawn card, Giant Trunade to no response from Nolen. Next he plays One for One, discarding Dandylion to Special Summon Spore and 2 Fluff Tokens. Spore is tuned with a Fluff Token for Formula Synchron, and Schwarz draws another 2 cards. Lonefire Blossom is discarded for Brionac's effect to spin Nolen's face-down monster, and Schwarz removes Lonefire Blossom to Special Summon a Level 4. He tunes the Spore with his remaining Fluff Token for another T.G. Hyper Librarian, drawing 1 card. He then makes the new Librarian Level 4 to Special Summon Level Eater and tunes Brionac with Formula and Level Eater for Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier; Nolen conceeds to Trishula and moves to his Side Deck.

Nolen tributes Lonefire Blossom to Special Summon his own Lonefire Blossom, which is tributed for another Lonefire Blossom, That Lonefire Blossom is then tributed off for Dandylion and Nolen Normal Summons Glow-Up Bulb. He tunes Glow-Up Bulb to Dandylion for Armory Arm and Special Summons 2 Fluff Tokens. He then mills a card for Glow-Up Bulb but Schwarz chains D.D. Crow to remove Bulb from play.
