Round 1 Feature Match: Alex Ahearn vs. Chris Hentz

Alex Ahearn is new to warring but known throughout the forum as the infamous WorldbyStorm. His opponent is Chris Hentz, proud member of Team Duelistgroundz.com and Team Fourshot. Both players wished each other good luck and the match began.


Game 1
Ahearn won the roll 4 to 2 and opened with a set monster.

Hentz drew and activated One for One, discarding Treeborn Frog to Special Summon Fishborg Blaster from his deck. He tributed Fishborg Blaster to Tribute Summon Raiza the Storm Monarch and spin Ahearn's face-down monster. Raiza the Storm Monarch attacked for 2400 and Hentz ended his turn.

Ahearn drew, set a monster and 1 backrow then ended his turn.

Hentz drew and activated Mystical Space Typhoon during his Standby Phase to destroy the newly set Gottoms' Emergency Call. Next he brought back Treeborn Frog and discarded Ronintoadin from his hand to Special Summon Fishborg Blaster from his Graveyard. Treeborn Frog and Fishborg Blaster were both sent to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron, allowing Hentz to draw a card. Raiza the Storm Monarch attacked the face-down monster, destroying XX-Saber Emmersblade, allowing Ahearn to Special Summon XX-Saber Darksoul from his Deck. Hentz ended his turn with no further plays.

Hentz drew and activated Mystical Space Typhoon during his Standby Phase again to destroy Enemy Controller. He then brought back Treeborn Frog and discarded Soul Exchange to bring back Fishborg Blaster alongside it. Fishborg Blaster and Treeborn Frog were sent to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron, drawing 1 card with its effect. He then Normal Summoned Swap Frog, activating the effect to send a copy of Swap Frog from his Deck to the Graveyard. Swap Frog returned Raiza the Storm Monarch from the field to the hand and Hentz ended his turn.

Ahearn drew and Normal Summoned XX-Saber Fulhelmknight. He then Flip Summoned 2 copies of XX-Saber Darksoul and sent all 3 monsters to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Mist Wurm! Mist Wurm targeted 2 copies of Formula Synchron and Swap Frog; Hentz allowed it and all 3 cards were returned. Mist Wurm attaked directly for 2500 and Ahearn ended his turn, searching out XX-Saber Boggart Knight and XX-Saber Faultroll with Darksoul.

Hentz drew and brought back Treeborn Frog from the Graveyard and then discarded Genex Controller to bring back Fishborg Blaster alongside it. He sent both to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron. He removed Swap Frog from his Graveyard to Special Summon Ronintoadin and tributed both his monsters for Light and Darkness Dragon! Light and Darkness Dragon attacked over Mist Wurm for 300 and Hentz ended his turn.

Ahearn drew, set a monster and ended his turn.

Hentz drew and attacked the face-down monster with Light and Darkness Dragon. X-Saber Pashuul was revealed. Hentz ended his turn.

Ahearn drew, set 1 card to his backrow and then activated Giant Trunade to reduce Light and Darkness Dragon by 500 ATK & DEF. He followed it up by Normal Summoning X-Saber Airbellum and Special Summoning XX-Saber Faultroll. XX-Saber Faultroll attacked over Light and Darkness Dragon for 100 and Hentz got back Ronintoadin in Defense Position with Light and Darkness Dragon's effect. Ahearn moved to Main Phase 2 and activated Faultroll's effect to Special Summon XX-Saber Darksoul from his Graveyard. He sent X-Saber Airbellum and XX-Saber Faultroll to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon XX-Saber Gottoms! XX-Saber Gottoms effect was activated, tributing off XX-Saber Darksoul to knock Battle Fader out of Hentz's hand. Ahearn ended his turn and got XX-Saber Faultroll from his Deck with XX-Saber Darksoul.

Hentz drew and Special Summoned Treeborn Frog, then tributed it for Enemy Controller to take control of XX-Saber Gottoms. He brought back Treeborn Frog again and activated Soul Exchange on X-Saber Pashuul, Ahearn chained Mystical Space Typhoon on Soul Exchange to avoid a potential Raiza lock. Hentz tributed Pashuul for the effect of XX-Saber Gottoms to knock a copy of XX-Saber Faultroll from Ahearn's hand and used Gottoms' effect again to tribute itself and discard XX-Saber Boggart Knight from Ahearn's hand. Hentz discarded Swap Frog from his own hand to Special Summon Fishborg Blaster, sent both Fishborg Blaster and Treeborn Frog to the Graveyard to draw 1 card and ended his turn with no further plays.

Ahearn drew, set 1 card to his backrow and ended.

Hentz drew and Ahearn activated Trap Dustshoot to reveal Raiza the Storm Monarch, Monster Reborn, Genex Controller, and Tragoedia. Raiza the Storm Monarch was sent back to the Deck. Hentz brought back Treeborn Frog, discarded Tragoedia to get back Fisborg Blaster and Synchro Summoned another Formula Synchron to draw a card. He activated Reborn to Special Summon XX-Saber Gottoms, attacked for 3100 and then ended his turn.

Chris Hentz takes a very long back and forth game way with a clutch Monster Reborn! Both players sided and prepared for Game 2 quickly.


Game 2
Ahearn began the game with Pot of Duality to reveal Dark Hole, Mind Control, and XX-Saber Darksoul. He kept Dark Hole and shuffled back the other 2 cards. He set a monster and 1 backrow then ended his turn.

Hentz drew and passed with no plays.

Ahearn drew and also passed with no plays.

Hentz drew and Normal Summoned Genex Undine, activating the effect but Ahearn chained Effect Veiler! Neither player seemed to realize that sending a WATER monster to the Graveyard is the cost for activation so no monster was sent from the Deck to the Graveyard. Hentz ended his turn.

Ahearn drew and Normal Summoned XX-Saber Boggart Knight, choosing not to activate the effect. XX-Saber Boggart Knight attacked over Genex Undine for 600 and Ahearn ended his turn.

Hentz drew and Ahearn flipped Trap Dustshoot to reveal a hand of Soul Exchange, Mystical Space Typhoon, Genex Controller, Vanity's Fiend, Battle Fader, Battle Fader, and Monster Reborn. Vanity's Fiend was returned to the Deck and Hentz ended his turn.

Ahearn drew and attacked with XX-Saber Boggart Knight for 1900, then set 1 card to his backrow and ended.

Hentz drew and activated Mystical Space Typhoon on the new set, Reinforce Truth which Ahearn chained to Special Summon XX-Saber Pashuul. Hentz ended his turn.

Ahearn drew and Flip Summoned XX-Saber Darksoul. He then switched X-Saber Pashuul to Attack Position and followed it up by Special Summoning XX-Saber Faultroll. He sent X-Saber Pashuul and XX-Saber Darksoul to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Naturia Beast. He activated XX-Saber Faultroll's effect to bring back X-Saber Pashuul and sent XX-Saber Faultroll and X-Saber Pashuul to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Stardust Dragon! XX-Saber Boggart Knight declared an attack and Hentz Special Summoned Battle Fader from his Hand to negate the attack and end the Battle Phase. Ahearn ended his turn and got XX-Saber Faultroll from his Deck with the effect of XX-Saber Darksoul.

Hentz drew and Normal Summoned Swap Frog, activating the effect but Ahearn blasted it with Pulling the Rug! Hentz ended his turn.

Ahearn drew and Normal Summoned XX-Saber Boggart Knight, choosing not to activate the effect. The first XX-Saber Boggart Knight attacked over the defense position Battle Fader and the second Boggart Knight declared a direct attack. Hentz attemped to Special Summon another Battle Fader but Ahearn had Solemn Warning to negate it. Hentz scooped with no way to stop the attacks!

Alex Ahearn takes Game 2 with Saber Synchro plays, finishing off Hentz before his deck ever got a chance to get rolling. That Effect Veiler might really come back to haunt Hentz. Both players wished each other good luck and Game 3 began.


Game 3
Hentz began the final game by setting a monster and ended his turn.

Ahearn drew and Normal Summoned XX-Saber Boggart Knight, choosing not to activate the effect. XX-Saber Boggart Knight slammed into Ronintoadin and Ahearn took 100 points of damage. He set 2 cards to his backrow and ended.

Ahearn drew and Normal Summoned XX-Saber Pashuul. He sent XX-Saber Pashuul and XX-Saber Boggart Knight to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon XX-Saber Hyunlei and target both of Hentz's face-down cards. Hentz chained Enemy Controller, tributing a face-down Treeborn Frog to attempt to take control of XX-Saber Hyunlei but Ahearn chained Solemn Judgment to negate it. Mystical Space Typhoon was destroyed by XX-Saber Hyunlei. Ahearn flip summoned XX-Saber Darksoul and Special Summoned 2 copies of XX-Saber Faultroll! He activated 1 XX-Saber Faultroll and Hentz chained Effect Veiler to negate it. Ahearn then activated the other XX-Saber Faultroll to get back X-Saber Pashuul and sent X-Saber Pashuul and XX-Saber Darksoul to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Naturia Beast. Naturia Beast attacked over Ronintoadin and Hyunlei declared a direct attack. Hentz attempted to Special Summon Battle Fader but Ahearn flipped Royal Oppression to negate it! Hyunlei hit for 2300 and both Faultroll connected for 4800. Ahearn ended and added XX-Saber Fulhelmknight from his Deck to his Hand with XX-Saber Darksoul.

Hentz drew his next card and scooped, having no way out.


Alex Ahearn comes back from a Game 1 loss to overpower Chris Hentz in the next 2 games! He moves on in the tournament with a 1-0 record.
