Our 2nd Top 16 Feature pits Jon Sturick against Ryan Segovia, Frog Monarch against X-Saber. Both these players have topped previous Grand Prix Championships, and both were here looking for their first win. Time to find out who would be one step closer to that goal!

Segovia opened with Gold Sarcophagus, removing Gottoms' Emergency Call from play. He set a monster, then ended.
Sturick drew Swap Frog and Summoned it, sending Treeborn Frog to the Graveyard. Swap Frog attacked over XX-Saber Darksoul and destroyed it. Swap Frog returned to Sturick's hand and Segovia searched out XX-Saber Faultroll during the End Phase.
Segovia ended with no plays.
Sturick drew Genex Undine, and brought back Treeborn Frog. Sturick Normal Summoned Genex Undine, sending Fishborg Blaster to the Graveyard while adding Genex Controller to his hand. Genex Controller was discarded to Special Summon Fishborg Blaster. Sturick tuned Fishborg Blaster and Treeborn Frog to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron, drawing a card. Sturick ended his turn and discarded Genex Undine to get down to 6 cards in hand.
Segovia drew and added Gottoms' Emergency Call to his hand. He Normal Summoned XX-Saber Boggart Knight, activating the effect but Sturick chained Effect Veiler to cut it off! Segovia set 4 cards to his back and Sturick tuned both his monsters for Ally of Justice Catastor. Segovia ended with no further plays.
Sturick brought back Treeborn Frog, then discarded Soul Exchange to Special Summon Fishborg Blaster but Segovia chained Book of Moon to turn Treeborn Frog face-down. Sturick activated Pot of Avarice, returning Genex Controller, Genex Undine, Genex Undine, Effect Veiler, and Formula Synchron to draw 2 cards. He then tributed Treeborn Frog for Raiza the Storm Monarch, spinning a backrow to the top of Segovia's deck. Raiza the Storm Monarch attacked over XX-Saber Boggart Knight and Ally of Justice Catastor hit directly for 2200, and Sturick set 1 card to his backrow before ending. Segovia activated Mystical Space Typhoon during the End Phase, destroying Enemy Controller.

In his Main Phase 2 Segovia Special Summoned XX-Saber Faultroll, then tuned XX-Saber Fulhelmknight and XX-Saber Darksoul for Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Segovia discarded XX-Saber Emmersblade to spin Ally of Justice Catastor away from the field. XX-Saber Faultroll activated and brought back XX-Saber Fulhelmknight. Segovia set 1 card to his backrow, then ended. Segovia forgot the effect of XX-Saber Darksoul.
Sturick drew, brought back Treeborn Frog and tributed it off for Enemy Controller to take control of Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Treeborn Frog hopped back onto the field and Sturick discarded Battle Fader to target Segovia's new set with Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier; it was Gottoms' Emergency Call and Segovia chained it to Special Summon XX-Saber Darksoul and XX-Saber Emmersblade in Defense. Sturick discarded Gorz the Emissary of Darkness to spin Segovia's other backrow, then discarded another Battle Fader to Special Summon Fishborg Blaster. Fishborg Blaster and Treeborn Frog were tuned for Formula synchron, drawing another card. Sturick then tuned Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier and Formula Synchron for Scrap Dragon! Raiza the Storm Monarch attacked XX-Saber Fulhelmknight and Segovia negated the attack. Scrap Dragon attacked over XX-Saber Faultroll for 400. In his Main Phase 2, Sturick set Enemy Controller then destroyed it and XX-Saber Fulhelmknight with Scrap Dragon. Sturick ended his turn.

Mist Wurm attacked over Raiza the Storm Monarch for 100, and XX-Saber Faultroll attacked directly for 2400. Segovia set 1 backrow, then searched out X-Saber Pashuul during his End Phase.

He tributed both monsters for Light and Darkness Dragon, but Segovia discarded Effect Veiler to his hand to shrink Light and Darkness Dragon! Sturick rammed Light and Darkness Dragon into XX-Saber Faultroll, taking 100 and replacing it with Gorz the Emissary of Darkness. Gorz the Emissary of Darkness attacked over XX-Saber Faultroll and Sturick ended.

Segovia Flip Summoned X-Saber Airbellum, hitting directly for 1600 and knocking Vanity's Fiend out of Sturick's hand. Segovia ended.

Segovia activated Giant Trunade, and Normal Summoned XX-Saber Darksoul. He tuned X-Saber Airbellum with XX-Saber Darksoul for Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth. Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth ran over the face-down Light and Darkness Dragon and Sturick replaced it with Swap Frog. Segovia set a backrow then ended his turn, searching out XX-Saber Faultroll.
Sturick returned Swap Frog to his hand and then Normal Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh and declared an attack on Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth. Segovia had no response and Struck dropped Forbidden Lance to shrink Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth and destroy it in battle. Sturick ended his turn.

Sturick Normal Summoned Swap Frog, and Segovia chained Chain Disappearance to remove it from play. It is not clear from the notes whether or not Sturick used the effect of Swap Frog. Sturick revealed his hand of Chaos Sorcerer, Caius the Shadow Monarch, Effect Veiler, Soul Exchange, Battle Fader, and Vanity's Fiend.
