Top 16 Feature Match: Andrew Tenjum vs. Cooster Rogburn

Welcome to the Top 16 Playoff! This match features Andrew Tenjum vs. Cooster Rogburn, X-Saber vs. Gravekeeper. Tenjum is the only undefeated player left in the tournament, finishing swiss with a 7-0 record. Rogburn had to win his final match just for a chance to get in, and finished 16th in Swiss with a 5-2 record. Both players had momentum entering the match, but Tenjum was looking unstoppable at this point! Would Rogburn be able to stop him? Let's find out!


Game 1

Rogburn won the dice roll 4 to 1, and opened by setting 2 backrow and a monster before ending.

Tenjum opened with a hand of XX-Saber Faultroll, Dark Hole, Mirror Force, Mystical Space Typhoon, XX-Saber Fulhelmknight, and XX-Saber Boggart Knight. He set Mystical Space Typhoon and Mirror Force, then ended.

Rogburn Normal Summoned Spirit Reaper, which promptly ran into Mirror Force. Rogburn ended.

Tenjum ended with no plays.

Rogburn activated Pot of Duality, revealing Gravekeeper's Assailant, Dark Hole, and Gravekeepers Stele; he kept Dark Hole and ended.

Tenjum drew Mind Crush, set it and ended.

Rogburn Flip Summoned Gravekeeper's Recruiter, attacked directly with it and ended.

Rogburn Normal Summoned Gravekeeper's Descendant, using priority to tribute off Gravekeeper's Recruiter and attempt to destroy XX-Saber Fulhelmknight, but Tenjum chained Torrential Tribute to wipe the field. Rogburn searched out Gravekeeper's Commandant and Gravekeeper's Recruiter, then discarded Gravekeeper's Commandant to add Necrovalley to his hand and play it. He followed it up with Gravekeeper's Stele to return Gravekeeper's Commandant and Gravekeeper's Assailant to his hand, then ended his turn.

Tenjum drew Giant Trunade and activated it, clearing the field! He Normal Summoned XX-Saber Boggart Knight, using the effect to drop XX-Saber Fulhelmknight; XX-Saber Faultroll was Summoned right after. Tenjum tuned XX-Saber Boggart Knight to XX-Saber Fulhelmknight for X-Saber Urbellum, then used XX-Saber Faultroll's effect to return XX-Saber Fulhelmknight to the field. X-Saber Urbellum hit directly, returning a card to the top of Rogburn's deck. XX-Saber Fulhelmknight and XX-Saber Faultroll both connected directly, and Tenjum reset his backrows of Seven Tools of the Bandit, Dark Hole, and Mind Crush before ending.

Rogburn drew and Tenjum flipped Mind Crush, ripping Dark Hole from his hand! Rogburn activated Smashing Ground to destroy XX-Saber Faultroll. He activated Necrovalley again, then Normal Summoned Gravekeeper's Assailant. Gravekeeper's Assailant attacked and ran over X-Saber Urbellum with its effect, and Rogburn ended by setting 1 backrow.

Tenjum drew Solemn Judgment, set it and ended.

Rogburn drew and Normal Summoned Gravekeeper's Descendant, but Tenjum negated the Summon with Solemn Judgment. Gravekeeper's Assailant declared an attack but Tenjum negated the attack with the effect of XX-Saber Fulhelmknight. Rogburn ended.

Rogburn Normal Summoned Gravekeeper's Commandant. Gravekeeper's Commandant attacked over Super-Nimble Mega Hamster and flipped Solemn Warning to stop Tenjum from bringing out XX-Saber Darksoul! Gravekeeper's Assailant attacked over XX-Saber Fulhelmknight for 700, and Rogburn ended with 1 set backrow.

Tenjum drew XX-Saber Fulhelmknight, and flipped Dark Hole to clear Rogburn's field. He Normal Summoned XX-Saber Fulhelmknight, and declared an attack but Rogburn put it face-down with Book of Moon. Tenjum ended.

Rogburn Normal Summoned Gravekeeper's Commandant, who attacked over the face-down XX-Saber Fulhelmknight. Rogburn ended with no other plays.

Rogburn activated Pot of Duality, revealing Dimensional Prison, Giant Trunade, and Torrential Tribute; he kept Dimensional Prison and ended after setting it.

Game 2

Rogburn opened with Pot of Duality, revealing Gravekeeper's Stele, Torrential Tribute, and Solemn Warning; he kept Torrential Tribute. Rogburn set 4 cards to his backrow before ending.

Tenjum opened with a hand of XX-Saber Faultroll, Malevolent Catastrophe, Seven Tools of the Bandit, Solemn Judgment, XX-Saber Boggart Knight, and Mind Crush. Tenjum set Malevolent Catastrophe and Seven Tools of the Bandit, then ended.

Rogburn passed with no plays.

Tenjum drew X-Saber Pashuul and ended.

Rogburn again passed with no plays.

Tenjum drew Effect Veiler and ended.

Rogburn activated Necrovalley, then summoned Gravekeeper's Descendant. Gravekeeper's Descendant declared an attack and Tenjum chained Malevolent Catastrophe! Rogburn lost Bottomless Trap Hole, Solemn Warning, Book of Moon, Dimensional Prison, and Necrovalley while Tenjum only lost Seven Tools of the Bandit. Tenjum took 1500 and Rogburn ended with no other plays.

Tenjum drew Pot of Duality and activated it, revealing Pot of Duality, XX-Saber Darksoul, and Reinforce Truth; he kept Reinforce Truth, set it and ended.

Rogburn attacked directly with Gravekeeper's Descendant and Tenjum chained Reinforce Truth to Special Summon X-Saber Pashuul in Defense. Rogburn set a monster and ended.

Tenjum drew Giant Trunade and activated it, then Normal Summoned XX-Saber Boggart Knight. XX-Saber Faultroll came down next and Tenjum tuned XX-Saber Boggart Knight and X-Saber Pashuul for XX-Saber Hyunlei. XX-Saber Faultroll brought back X-Saber Pashuul and Tenjum tuned XX-Saber Hyunlei and X-Saber Pashuul for Stardust Dragon. XX-Saber Faultroll ran over Rogburn's set Gravekeeper's Spy, which brought out Gravekeeper's Recruiter in Defense. Stardust Dragon ran over Gravekeeper's Descendant for 1000, and Tenjum set Solemn Judgment, Mind Crush, and Solemn Warning before ending with Effect Veiler in hand. This one was all but over.

Rogburn activated Pot of Duality, revealing Mirror Force, Pot of Duality, and Gravekeeper's Recruiter; he kept Gravekeepers Recruiter. Gravekeeper's Stele came down next to return Gravekeeper's Spy and Gravekeeper's Descendant to the hand. Rogburn set a monster and 2 backrow, then ended.

Tenjum drew XX-Saber Fulhelmknight, then activated the effect of XX-Saber Faultroll to bring back XX-Saber Boggart Knight. XX-Saber Faultroll destroyed the face-down Gravekeeper's Spy again, who once again brought out Gravekeeper's Recruiter in Defense. Both Recruiters were then destroyed in battle, and Cogburn searched out Gravekeeper's Commandant and Gravekeeper's Assailant. Tenjum ended.

Rogburn drew and discarded Gravekeeper's Commandant for Necrovalley, but Tenjum chained Mind Crush to discard Necrovalley to the Graveyard. Rogburn scooped with no way out of the situation!

Andrew Tenjum wins 2-0, taking control of Game 2 with a devastating Malevolent Catastrophe! He moves onto the Top 8, where he will play against Jon Sturick's Frog Monarch deck.
