Top 4 Feature Match: Andrew Tenjum vs. Brandon McClain

Andrew Tenjum is currently on fire, and looking unstoppable at this point. He still has not lost, and 2 more wins would make him an undefeated GPC Champion! Brandon McClain entered the tournament with a Round 1 loss and went 5-1 in Swiss to make the Day 2 cut, and he's looking to put a stop to Tenjum's undefeated streak. Let's see if he can!


Game 1
McClain began game 1 by setting 4 cards to his backrow alongside a monster.

Tenjum opened with a hand of XX-Saber Darksoul, Mind Crush, Book of Moon, Solemn Warning, Enemy Controller, and Monster Reborn. He set everything except Reborn and ended.

McClain set a 5th card to his backrow, then passed.

Tenjum drew another Darksoul, set it and ended.

McClain Flip Summoned Gravekeeper's Recruiter, which attacked over a Darksoul. He ended and Tenjum searched out XX-Saber Fulhelmknight.

Tenjum drew Mirror Force, then Summoned Fulhelmknight. McClain chained Torrential Tribute to clear the field of Fulhelmknight, Darksoul, and Recuiter; he searched out Gravekeeper's Commandant with Recruiter. Tenjum set Mirror Force and searched out XX-Saber Fulhelmknight during his End Phase.

McClain discarded Gravekeeper's Commandant to add Necrovalley to his hand, and Tenjum chained Mind Crush to knock 2 copies of Necrovalley out of Tenjum's hand! McClain played Gravekeeper's Stele to get back Recruiter and Commandant, then discarded Commandant for the final Necrovalley. He activated it, set a monster and activated Royal Tribute to discard Fulhelmknight and reveal Monster Reborn from Tenjum's hand. McClain ended.

Tenjum drew X-Saber Airbellum and ended.

McClain Flip Summoned Gravekeeper's Recruiter but Tenjum activated Solemn Warning to negate the summon. McClain ended.

Tenjum drew XX-Saber Emmersblade and Summoned it, promptly losing it to Solemn Warning. Tenjum ended.

McClain set a 4th card to his backrow, then activated another Royal Tribute to discard X-Saber Airbellum. McClain ended.

Tenjum drew Call of the Haunted, set it and ended.

McClain set a final card to his backrow and ended.

Tenjum drew Mystical Space Typhoon! He activated it to destroy the final Necrovalley. He played Monster Reborn targetting Emmersblade, but McClain chained Royal Oppression. Tenjum responded to Royal Oppression with Call of the Haunted, but McClain chained Mystical Space Typhoon on it! Tenjum ended.

McClain Normal Summoned Gravekeeper's Descendant and slammed it into Mirror Force. He passed with no other plays.

Tenjum drew Effect Veiler and passed.

McClain activated Gravekeeper's Stele to get back Descendant and Recruiter, then Summoned Recruiter and hit directly for 1200 before ending.

Tenjum drew XX-Saber Faultroll and ended.

McClain Summoned Descendant and tributed off Recruiter with priority, targetting a backrow; Tenjum chained the targetted Enemy Controller to put Descendant in Defense. McClain forgot to search with the effect of Recruiter! He set a 5th card to his backrow and ended.

Tenjum drew Pot of Duality and activated it, revealing XX-Saber Darksoul, XX-Saber Emmersblade, and Seven Tools of the Bandit; he kept Darksoul, set it and ended.

McClain attacked over Darksoul with Descendant then ended. Tenjum searched out Fulhelmknight in the End Phase.

Tenjum drew X-Saber Pashuul, set it and ended.

Descendant attacked into Pashuul, bouncing of. McClain ended.

Tenjum drew Seven Tools of the Bandit, set it and ended.

McClain drew and Tenjum took 1000 from Pashuul. McClain activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Seven Tools, then played Pot of Duality, revealing Gravekeeper's Spy, Gravekeeper's Commandant, and Mind Crush; he kept Spy. McClain set a monster and 1 backrow, then ended.

Descendant declared an attack on Pashuul and Tenjum chained Book of Moon on Descendant. McClain chained Forbidden Lance on Descendant and Tenjum took 600 from the attack. McClain set a 5th card to his backrow and ended.

Tenjum drew another XX-Saber Faultroll, then Normal Summoned XX-Saber Fulhelmknight and ended.

McClain declared an attack on Pashuul but Tenjum negated it with Fulhelmknight. McClain ended.

Tenjum drew Reinforce Truth, set it and ended.

McClain attacked Pashuul with Descendant, but Tenjum chained Enemy Controller. McClain responded with Solemn Judgment, but Tenjum had Seven Tools of the Bandit to force Descendant into Defense. McClain entered his Main Phase 2 and Flip Summoned Gravekeeper's Spy, bringing out Recruiter. Descendant tributed off Recruiter to target Reinforce Truth, which Tenjum chained. McClain paid 800 to negate the Summon with Royal Oppression. McClain forgot his Recruiter effect again. Next he tributed Gravekeeper's Spy for Descendant and Tenjum chained Effect Veiler to keep Fulhelmknight out. McClain set a monster and ended.

Tenjum had no plays on his next turn, and McClain had another Spy to clear the field next turn. Tenjum drew Solemn Warning next turn and scooped!


Brandon McClain locks down the game with double Royal Tribute and Royal Oppression, in spite of his forgetfulness. One more win and he'd be in the Finals.


Game 2
Tenjum opened with Malevolent Catastrophe, Seven Tools of the Bandit, 1 unknown card, XX-Saber Boggart Knight, XX-Saber Emmersblade, and Pot of Duality. He played Duality, revealing Emmersblade, Super-Nimble Mega Hamster, and Fulhelmknight; he kept Fulhelmknight. Tenjum set Emmersblade and Catastrophe, then ended.

McClain Special Summoned Cyber Dragon, which attacked over Emmersblade. Tenjum Special Summoned XX-Saber Darksoul with it. McClain set another monster and ended.

Tenjum drew Dimensional Prison. He Normal Summoned Fulhelmknight and tuned both his monsters for Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Brionac attacked over Cyber Dragon for 200 and Tenjum added XX-Saber Faultroll to his hand during the End Phase.

McClain Flip Summoned Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter to destroy Brionac; Rykp milled Effect Veiler, Chaos Sorcerer, and Bottomless Trap Hole. He removed Chaos Sorcerer and Cyber Dragon to Special Summon Chaos Sorcerer, then set a monster and 1 backrow and ended.

Tenjum drew Mystical Space Typhoon and ended. During his End Phase McClain activated Deck Devastation Virus, tributing off Chaos Sorcerer to reveal Tenjum's hand of Dimensional Prison, Seven Tools, 1 unkown card, Boggart Knight, Fautroll, and Typhoon; Tenjum lost no cards to the Virus.

McClain Flip Summoned Gravekeeper's Spy, bringing out Gravekeeper's Descendant from the deck. Ryko went to Defense, then Spy and Recruiter hit directly for 2700. McClain set a monster and ended.

Tenjum drew Effect Veiler and lost it to the Virus. He Normal Summoned Boggart Knight to run over Descendant for 400. Tenjum set Typhoon and Dimensional Prison, then ended.

McClain Flip Summoned Ryko, destroying XX-Saber Boggart Knight and milled off Typhoon, Solemn Warning, and Spy. Next he dropped Dark Armed Dragon, removing Spy to destroy Dimensional Prison. Descendant was removed next and Tenjum lost Malevolent Catastrophe. McClain tributed Ryko for Cyber Dragon, then Special Summoned Chaos Sorcerer and swung with everything for the match!


Brandon McClain's conversion side works to perfection, and Andrew Tenjum goes from undefeated to out of the Tournament. McClain moves onto the Finals, where he will face Jesse Nguyen's Frog Monarch deck!
