Top 8 Feature Match: Andrew Tenjum vs. Jon Sturick

Both these players advanced to the Top 8, and were looking to take the next step in the tournament. Andrew Tenjum is still undefeated with X-Sabers, while Jon Sturick finished 5-2 in Swiss and won his Top 16 Feature Match vs. Ryan Segovia's X-Sabers. Would Tenjum be able to avenge his fallen Brady Bunch member, or would Sturick score 2 upset wins in a row vs. X-Sabers? Let's find out!

Game 1
Tenjum started the match off by setting 3 cards to his backrow and a monster.

Sturick 1 card to his backrow and ended.

Tenjum Flip Summoned XX-Saber Darksoul, then Normal Summoned X-Saber Pashuul. Sturick responded to the summon of Pashuul with Mystical Space Typhoon, hitting Tenjum's Seven Tools of the Bandit. Tenjum dropped XX-Saber Faultroll, then tuned his other 2 monsters for Naturia Beast. Naturia Beast attacked and Sturick took 2200, then XX-Saber Faultroll attacked directly for 2400. Sturick dropped Gorz the Emissary of Darkness off of the second attack, bringing out a 2400 token. Tenjum moved to his Main Phase 2 and activated the effect of XX-Saber Faultroll to bring back X-Saber Pashuul, then tuned both monsters for Scrap Dragon. Scrap Dragon destroyed Gorz the Emissary of Darkness and Naturia Beast. Tenjum entered his End Phase and searched out XX-Saber Faultroll, then ended.

Tenjum: 8000
Sturick: 3400

Sturick activated Monster Reborn to get X-Saber Pashuul, then tributed it and the Emissary of Darkness token for Light and Darkness Dragon. Light and Darkness Dragon declared an attack on Scrap Dragon and Tenjum flipped Call of the Haunted to shrink the Dragon and Sturick took 500, then Special Summoned Gorz the Emissary of Darkness in Defense. Sturick ended.

Tenjum: 8000
Sturick: 2900

Tenjum Normal Summoned XX-Saber Fulhelmknight. Gorz ran over Scrap Dragon, then Fulhelmknight connected directly. Tenjum ended.

Tenjum: 8000
Sturick: 1600

Sturick set a monster and ended.

Tenjum attacked over the face-down Treeborn Frog with XX-Saber Fulhelmknight, getting back XX-Saber Darksoul with the effect. Scrap Dragon declared an attack and Sturick dropped Battle Fader to end the Battle Phase. Tenjum moved to his Main Phase 2 and dropped XX-Saber Faultroll, which got back X-Saber Pashuul. Tenjum tuned Faultroll and Fulhelmknight for XX-Saber Gottoms! Gottoms tributed off Darksoul and Sturick lost Genex Controller form his hand. Gottoms sacrificed itself next and Sturick lost Pot of Avarice. Tenjum Normal Summoned XX-Saber Darksoul and tuned it with Pashuul for Ally of Justice Catastor. Scrap Dragon activated next destroying Tenjum's set Torrential Tribute and Battle Fader. Tenjum set 1 card to his backrow, then searched out 2 copies of Fulhelmknight before ending.

Game 2
Sturick discarded Treeborn Frog to Special Summon Swap Frog, sending another copy of Treeborn Frog from his deck to the Graveyard. He tributed Swap Frog for Vanity's Fiend, then ended.

Tenjum opened with Pot of Duality, revealing X-Saber Pashuul, Dark Hole, and Chain Disappearance; he kept Dark Hole and used it to rid the field of Vanity's Fiend. Tenjum Normal Summoned Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo and attacked directly for 1200. Tenjum then set 3 cards to his backrow and ended.

Tenjum: 8000
Sturick: 6800

Tenjum: 4000

Tenjum played another Pot of Duality, revealing Chain Disappearance, X-Saber Pashuul, and Enemy Controller; he kept Enemy Controller. He then Normal Summoned X-Saber Airbellum and Sturick dropped Effect Veiler on it to protect his hand. Both monsters hit directly for 2800, and Tenjum set 1 card to his backrow before ending.

Sturick: 4000

Sturick passed with no plays.
